Redwood Summer update

With citizen awareness promising to save remaining old-growth groves in November, lumber corporations are increasing tree cutting to unprecedented levels. Activists are responding with numerous non-violent actions to save as many of these priceless trees as possible.

1,500 protesters marched at the July 21, 1990, Fort Bragg rally, bringing needed dialogue between environmentalists and timber workers. Meanwhile, a civil disobedience action at Navarro Ridge contributed to the issuance of a Temporary Restraining Order to postpone cutting there.

95% of California’s old-growth redwoods are gone, but this year’s harvest is expected to be the largest in history. Non-union loggers from other states, called in to accommodate the increased work load, are replacing community jobs. Help is needed now to stop the industry’s rampage.
