The Alternative Transportation Task Force was one of BAA’s first projects. In cooperation with city officials, transportation agencies, local businesses, and other environmental groups, the Alt Trans group encouraged individuals to carpool, use public transportation, bike, walk, or work from home every Tuesday, decades before work-from-home became a common concept. Through events and education, BAA pointed out that alternatives to the single-occupant automobiles would help individuals reduce fossil fuel consumption and help clean the air.
The group held Alternative Transportation Tuesdays and organized the Beat the Back-Up Day Parade.
